Associate Director, Strategic Sourcing

Job Profile Summary

The Associate Director of Strategic Sourcing is responsible for the strategic sourcing function within the university’s Procurement Services department. This individual will provide strong leadership with a high priority on stakeholder engagement and high quality service, proven strategic sourcing knowledge and application, and a continuous improvement mindset to accelerate the maturity of this function with the Procurement Services department and the University. This role will report to the Executive Director of Procurement Services, and will include being active as a Category Manager. Key responsibilities include:

  • This position is accountable for the Strategic Sourcing process and activities in a center-led organization to ensure positive stakeholder engagement to fulfill required needs (including timing), ensure effective stewards of the university funds and be a value business partner.
  • Serves as the central resource for leading value based cost savings across the university.
  • Possesses detailed sourcing knowledge from spend analytics, developing category strategies (including market intelligence), conducting professional sourcing requests (for information, quotation, and proposal), structured evaluations, including supplier risk management, ability to conduct complex financial and cost analysis, excellent negotiation skills, leading to sound contracts, awards, and supplier management, all while ensuring a fair process to all invitees.
  • Ensures methodology whereas contract obligations are fulfilled, risks are mitigated, issues are resolved, supplier performance achieves defined SLAs and contracts remain valid throughout their life cycle. Additionally, holds procurement members and suppliers accountable for their actions pursuant to CMU policies, procedures and processes.
  • Understand the Procurement and Account Payable Operations, to drive touchless purchasing and support touchless invoice processing.
  • Has knowledge of procurement technologies to leverage efficient and effective source to pay process.
  • This position is responsible for the daily operations of strategic souring while providing leadership to develop direct staff, elevating and broadening their technical skills, competencies, and overall
    performance, as well as supporting the extended staff in the units.
  • Displays strong continuous improvement mindset, is data driven and constantly seeks to simplify,
    standardize and automate where applicable.
  • This role will include direct category management.
  • Key Metrics include, but not limited to: Ethics and compliance, Cost Savings, Customer Satisfaction,
    Supplier and Risk Management.
