Staff Mentorship Program Wraps Up Debut Year

In June 2025, the CMU Staff Mentorship Program will conclude its successful inaugural year. The initial cohort consisted of 21 participants from Enrollment Management and Robotics. Mentors and mentees were paired based on professional and personal interests and goals.

The nine-month program, which is open to all staff members, helps with professional development, information sharing, personal growth and exposure to other departments. The next cohort will begin in October.

Ben Carpenter, associate director of admission, said he became a mentee because he’s “always looking for ways to improve in all ways.” His mentor was Nick Hinkle, associate director of student financial aid.

“Nick and I worked together in the Office of Admission a few years ago, so we had a pretty strong rapport prior to entering the Mentorship Program,” Carpenter said.

The pair met about once a month to explore ways to strengthen Carpenter’s skills as a supervisor. “I hope to incorporate some of the things Nick and I discussed into my work and continue to improve as a supervisor and as a contributor to our office's overall mission,” Carpenter said.
