HR Leadership Team
The HR Leadership Team provides strategic oversight and guidance for the Office of Human Resources. Together, the team leads efforts to attract, develop, support and engage faculty and staff across the university. In addition to shaping HR policies and services, the team drives initiatives in talent management, professional development, employee engagement, workplace culture and organizational change. Through this leadership, the HR team works to create an inclusive and supportive environment that enables the success of both employees and the institution.

Meet the Team

Kelli Shuman
Chief Human Resources Officer

Kelli Shuman serves as Associate Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Carnegie Mellon University, where she leads strategic HR initiatives to foster an engaged, adaptable, and resilient workforce. She partners across the university to enhance HR programs and services for over 7,000 employees, driving organizational effectiveness and continuous improvement.
With nearly 20 years of experience in higher education HR, Shuman previously held the CHRO role at Elon University, where she was a member of the president’s senior staff. Her leadership spanned talent acquisition, employee relations, benefits, professional development, wellness, performance management, and inclusive excellence support. Nationally, Shuman contributes to the advancement of the HR profession through her roles on the CUPA-HR Board of Directors and the Society of Higher Education Human Resources Executives. Earlier in her career, she served as VP for HR at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and HR management from Black Hills State University, a master’s in administration and HR management from the University of South Dakota and is a graduate of Harvard’s Institute for Educational Management.

Gloria Gruber
Assistant VP of HR, People & Organizational Effectiveness

As a strategic leader, Gloria guides a team of HR business partners, HR generalists, and talent acquisition professionals to advance organizational goals. She actively collaborates with campus leaders to proactively address human capital challenges. Her key initiatives include attracting and retaining top talent, fostering a positive and engaging employee experience, and guiding the organization through change to improve overall performance. She ensures compliance and consistency across a complex and decentralized environment by aligning HR strategies with the institution’s mission.
She joined CMU in 2000, and throughout her tenure, she has held various roles including leading the Temporary Employment Service, serving as an HR Business Partner, and Director of HR for University Advancement.
Before joining CMU, Gloria served as Manager of Staffing Solutions at Life’sWork of Western Pennsylvania, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the quality of life for people with disabilities and other barriers to employment by providing them with productive work opportunities, and as a Personnel Consultant at Liken Employment Services.
Gloria holds a master of public management with a concentration in human resources from Carnegie Mellon University and a bachelor of science in business and psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. A lifelong learner, she has earned numerous professional certifications, including Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), Senior Professional in Human Resources Certification (SPHR), and Conflict and Change Management Certification.
Gloria lives in Zelienople with her husband, Ken. She cherishes spending time at the beach with her two children, Jessica and Matt, and her two grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoys relaxing with a good book or putting together a challenging jigsaw puzzle.

Matt Keating
Assistant VP, Administrative Enterprise Applications

Matt Keating is the Assistant Vice President of Administrative Enterprise Applications at Carnegie Mellon University. This relatively new role sits in Computing Services, and it reports to Human Resources in a dotted-line fashion. Matt and his team partner with stakeholders in Human Resources, Finance, and other campus functions as they support Workday Human Capital Management and Payroll, Oracle E-Business Suite, workforce analytics, and a variety of custom-built applications. A CMU graduate, Matt has a deep connection to the university and has contributed to modernizing processes, improving employee experiences, and building data-driven decision-making capabilities.
Before joining CMU, Matt spent more than two decades in leadership and consulting roles with global organizations, including GlaxoSmithKline and Andersen. He also served as Partner at TekSpark, a boutique consulting firm providing business application implementation expertise. His career has centered on guiding enterprise system transformations, building collaborative cultures, and helping organizations adapt to change.
Matt is energized by working with colleagues to solve complex challenges and contribute to continuous improvement.

Jack Kennedy
Assistant VP, Total Rewards and Family Care Operations

Jack Kennedy is the Assistant Vice President for Total Rewards and Family Care Operations in Carnegie Mellon University's Office of Human Resources. With over 30 years of experience in human resources, he leads efforts to deliver accessible, comprehensive benefits and family care programs that support the diverse needs of CMU’s employees.
Kennedy has been a driving force behind initiatives such as the redesign of CMU’s retirement readiness program and the expansion of parental leave, aligning HR services with the university’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he collaborated with university leadership to introduce enhanced support for families, including child care, elder care, and specialized care services.
Before joining CMU, Kennedy held senior HR roles at Seneca Gaming Corporation, where he served as Vice President of Human Resources, and at American Axle Manufacturing. He began his career as a social welfare examiner for Erie County in 1986.
Kennedy earned both his bachelor’s degree and MBA from the University at Buffalo.

Andy Pujol
Assistant VP for Compensation and Benefits

Andy has held numerous roles within the Office of Human Resources at Carnegie Mellon over the past decade and currently serves as assistant vice president for compensation and benefits. In this role, his portfolio of responsibility includes compensation, benefits, HR compliance, data analytics and HR services. Additionally, Andy also serves as a key partner to executive leadership and the board of trustees on all executive compensation matters.
During his time at CMU, Andy has led numerous successful projects and initiatives contributing to ongoing strategic transformation efforts including the implementation of the first ever compensation philosophy, strategy and guidelines, implementation of tools focused on strategic compensation benchmarking and merit processes, re-engineering of processes and structures, and the implementation of total rewards statements.
Prior to CMU, Andy spent several years in the healthcare industry focused on broad-based compensation administration, career ladder development and wage and hour compliance.
Andy holds a bachelor’s degree from the Pennsylvania State University and master’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He holds numerous professional designations including the Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Global Remuneration Professional (GRP) and the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) which is co-sponsored by the Wharton School of Business and the International Foundation of Employee Benefits Programs.
Additionally, he has graduated from the Emerging Leaders Network and Leadership Pittsburgh as well as the Chief Human Resource Officer Program through the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Outside of work, Andy enjoys regularly traveling with his wife and young children.

Todd Rosignoli
Assistant VP of Learning and Development

In Todd's role, he leads a team responsible for learning, development, change management, ombuds, events and communications, including the HR website.
During his six years at CMU, Todd successfully led meaningful and measurable accomplishments including an over four-fold increase in instructor-led training sessions and the ongoing delivery of six professional development programs. He also manages all HR-related communications including the annual Open Enrollment campaign and change management activities for HR and campus projects. He is also proud to have served as the United Way committee chairman since 2020 raising nearly $800,000.
Prior to joining CMU, Todd accumulated over 20 years of progressive experience in learning, development, change management and communications. His efforts included managing change efforts for the global PeopleSoft upgrade impacting over 25,000 employees. He also created and managed the Finance Leadership Development Program, maintaining an 83% retention rate with ~67% of graduates achieving one promotion and ~50% two or more.
Todd holds a master of education and bachelor of arts in the humanities from the University of Pittsburgh.He also holds EQi 2.0/EQ 360 Emotional Intelligence, Prosci Change Management, DiSC, True Colors, ELI Civil Treatment, and DDI certifications and is a Myers-Briggs Master Practitioner.
In addition to boring his team with scary stories from his colorful career, Todd has worked in two industries that no longer exist. He worked for National Record Mart before the days of digital music and Blockbuster Video before the rise of Netflix. He still longs for the days of buying 45s and reading VHS boxes to find a hidden gem to rent.
