Community Programs

The Center has sponsored several experimental community projects that use the arts as a forum for educational and social work focused on the Pittsburgh’s underserved populations. They are the result of discussions among Center members and involve collaboration across fields, partnerships with community organizations, and consultations with local arts and cultural organizations. Past projects have included Jóvenes Sin Nombres a first-generation Latino youth group focused on education in the visual arts and mural painting. The most recent project is The Pittsburgh Queer History Project, a research and preservation initiative archiving the history and development of a working class queer culture in Pittsburgh in the 20th Century.
