Adam Harvey - "Becoming Data: Privacy, Surveillance, and Datification of Everything"
CAS Speaker Series
March 21, 2023 - 5pm
Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry, CFA 111
We're becoming data. Unwittingly and without opt-outs, we're being monitored, analyzed, and used as feedstock to train artificial intelligence. Increasingly these systems are becoming competent surrogates of our former selves, enabling automation at large scale and displacing reality with more efficient, scalable simulations. This lecture will explore the relationships between surveillance technologies, the new wave of AI automation, and how we might imagine privacy as a technological counterforce in the 21st century.
Adam Harvey (US/DE) is an artist and applied researcher based in Berlin focused on computer vision, privacy, and surveillance.
