How to Retool the War on Terror

Regime (of Language) Change

Monday, October 18, 4:30 PM Adamson Wing (Baker Hall 136)

Adam Hodges, A.W. Mellon Postdoctoral Humanities Fellow, Carnegie Mellon “Discursive Tactics of Resistance against the ‘War on Terror’ Narrative”

Andrew Johnson, Associate Professor, School of Art, Carnegie Mellon “In other words let me rephrase that”

Artist Andrew Johnson and linguistic anthropologist Adam Hodges explore how the “war on terror” narrative has been retooled in recent years. How have political figures adopted or adapted that “war” as an explicit or implicit frame of reference?  How have activists and artists appropriated elements of its rhetoric or images as they make their own critical interventions?
