On May 20, Disney will release “On Stranger Tides,” the fourth film in its highly successful “Pirates…” series. The films aren’t just escapist entertainment. They hijack complex histories of rebel piracy to incite conformity to corporate visions of life, labor and the world at large. This talk offers resources for engaging the new film, pushing past the limiting visions the series promotes, and thinking more creatively about the cultural politics of contemporary capitalism.
