In the age of a new space race, there is a growing conviction that humans will soon have colonies on the Moon and Mars—a conviction sustained for decades by science fiction films and novels. James Wynn and Kathy Newman’s talks explore, as part of their Planetary Hospitality project for the Center for the Arts in Society, how extra-terrestrial living is represented on the page on the screen and what the potential impact these representations might have on our imagination of what our future beyond planet Earth will be like!

This event is co-sponsored by the Department of Physics and the Department of Modern Languages.
