Rajeshwari Dutt , a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University's Department of History 's Ph.D. program, has published her second book, Empire on Edge: Race, Ethnicity and Governance in Northern Belize during the Caste War, 1847-1901 with Cambridge University Press. Dutt is an Assistant Professor of History at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and has another published work, Maya Caciques in Early National Yucatán (Norman: Oklahoma University Press, 2017). Her research interests in nineteenth century Yucatán and Belize are highlighted in her work. Dutt states, "In this book, I am also arguing for a rethinking of Latin American Studies to include the experiences of regions (such as Belize) which do not share the same historical context and trajectory as traditional 'Latin' American nations."
