Google Gemini at CMU: Event Wrap-Up
On September 29, 2025, Google hosted a highly successful event on CMU’s Pittsburgh campus, providing students and faculty with an in-depth look at Google Gemini Web App and NotebookLM. With 1,386 attendees, CMU demonstrated one of the highest levels of engagement on Google’s cross-country university tour to date! This significant turnout highlights our community's enthusiasm for integrating Generative AI into our teaching and learning. The event featured an on-campus pop-up at The Fence, where the Google product team held “choose-your-own-adventure” style demonstrations for students. Additionally, Google conducted tailored training events for faculty and staff in the Cohon University Center. Sessions introduced attendees to the fundamentals of Generative AI, as well as the Gemini Web App and NotebookLM, through practical demonstrations and interactive scenarios.
Attendees also learned about minimizing bias and the safe and ethical use of Gemini. Sessions emphasized the importance of keeping a human in the loop, strategies for ensuring data safety, and prompting strategies designed to generate more inclusive and valuable outputs. Throughout the event, Google emphasized that GenAI should never be viewed as a replacement for humans, but rather as a tool to assist them.
