How to Use Gemini Web App
Google Gemini Web App is Google’s GenAI standalone tool that assists with writing, research, and idea generation based on natural-language prompts.
Gemini provides additional data protection when you access this tool using your Andrew userID. Google will not retain your prompts or responses to train its AI models
Log In
- Visit gemini.google.com.
- Click Sign in.
- Log in using your Andrew userID and password, then authenticate with Duo.
IMPORTANT: If you’re logged in correctly, a shield will display in the Chat window letting you know enterprise protections are in place. When you log in with your CMU account, Google does not use your prompts and responses for AI training, and uploaded documents are not retained beyond your session.
Note: CMU's Data Classification Guidelines still apply—do not enter sensitive, private, or restricted data.

To use the CMU-protected version of the Gemini Web App, it’s essential to log in with your Andrew account. A shield will appear in the Chat window if you have logged in correctly.
Enterprise protections are automatically applied when you're logged in with your Andrew account.
Using the wrong login could expose sensitive university data. Always confirm you're in the CMU-authorized version of Gemini before entering any institutional or confidential information.
How do I use Gemini Apps with my CMU Google account?
To use Gemini Apps:
- Log in to gemini.google.com with your CMU Google credentials.
- Click the Settings > icon in the Gemini Web App.
- Scroll down and click the slider to enable Google Workspace.
- Click New Chat (left) to begin.
- Click the Chat field and type @. You will be prompted to select an app to work with.
- Select an app from the drop down list and enter your prompt!
