How to Use Rangos Self-Service AV Equipment
Rangos Ballroom includes three spaces (Rangos 1, 2, and 3), separated by floor-to-ceiling dividers. Each space includes the following self-service audio-visual equipment:

A screen, projector, and speakers

Two cameras for video conferencing

A touch panel and equipment cabinet
CMU community members can request to use this equipment for meetings or events hosted in one of these three spaces. If you intend to use multiple spaces and/or the stage, you must request event support services.
1. Reserve a Room in Rangos Ballroom
Use the 25Live Room Reservation Service to book a room in Rangos Ballroom.
2. Request Self-Service AV Equipment
Request self-service AV equipment from Media Services. For Rangos, you will receive a cable bundle that includes an HDMI cable to present audio and visual content as well as a USB cable to support video conferencing. You may also choose to request microphones.
3. Bring An Adapter
Your laptop will need an HDMI port to present audio and video and a USB port to host a video conference. If you do not have the port you need, remember to bring an adapter.
4. Connect to the In-Room AV Equipment
Locate the touch panel and equipment cabinet at the far end of the room. Press the right side of the equipment cabinet to open it, and follow the instructions below to connect.
Present Using the Projector and Screen
Wired
- On the touch panel, tap Turn System On.
- Connect an HDMI cable to your device and the Video In port in the equipment cabinet.
- Tap Laptop on the touch panel.
- If you don’t see anything on the screen, visit your device’s display settings and ensure you output is set to the in-room display.
Wireless
- On the touch panel, tap Wireless Presentation.
- Follow the steps on the touch panel to connect your device.
- Tap End Presentation to disconnect.
If you are using audio, remember to test it before your meeting or event. You may have to visit your device’s sound settings to ensure your output is set to the in-room speakers.
Adjust the volume using the touch panel. If you have trouble, try adjusting from your audio player (e.g. Spotify, YouTube, etc.).
Play Music or Other Audio Content (no projection)
- On the touch panel, tap Turn System On.
- (optional) If you don’t need the screen, tap Blank Screen and Screen Up.
- Connect the HDMI cable to your device and the Video In port in the equipment cabinet.
- Adjust the volume in your audio player (e.g. Spotify, YouTube, etc.).
Host a Video Conference (Zoom meeting)
- On the touch panel, tap Turn System On.
- Connect one end of the USB cable and the HDMI cable to your laptop.
- Connect the other ends to the ports in the equipment cabinet labeled USB and Video In.
- Open the Zoom app on your laptop.
- Select your profile icon and then click Settings.
- Verify that the Video is connected to USB Capture HDMI+
- Verify that the Audio (Speaker) and Audio (Microphone) are connected to your Rangos room.
- Tap Conferencing on the touch panel to open additional conferencing and camera controls.
- Use the Zoom app to share your screen (if needed).

Connect a Microphone
- Turn on your microphone.
- On the touch panel, tap Audio Levels to adjust the volume.
