6.0.0 Release Notes

With the Version 6 (v6) release comes a completely overhauled and aesthetically pleasing new CMS interface, two new page types, dynamic filtering on special index page types, and more!

Highlights

UPGRADE! CMS Interface-lift

Sayonara crusty ‘ole v5 interface. Version 6 is our most epic CMS interface upgrade to date, and we've dropped several visual and functional improvements designed to help you build and manage your site(s) better:

  • Cleaner, bolder, responsive CMS interface
  • Refreshed help text, now visible by default when editing
  • Streamlined WYSIWYG editing experience
  • Multi-site user dashboard
  • Helpful dashboard widgets and tools

We know change isn't always easy. But don't fret. While the interface looks a little different, you will quickly notice how familiar it actually feels once you get started. After you've had an opportunity to explore the new look, please let us know what you think.

NEW! Content Type: Course and Course Index

CMS users and academic departments have long requested a solution for displaying course catalogs. Introducing Course and Course Index pages.

Course and Course Index pages work much in the same way as Bio and Bio Index pages and News and News Index pages. Simply create your individual Course pages, then organize and display them on a Course Index page. It's that easy!

NEW! Dynamic Filtering

Make finding and filtering content easier for site visitors with dropdowns and smart search, available on Bio Index, News Index, and Course Index pages. Tag your pages with categories and get to filtering!

NEW! Categories Block

Now you can manage all your categories all in one place: the categories block. From the categories block you can add new categories, organize existing ones and create custom taxonomies. Take advantage of category tagging for your Bio, News, and Course pages like never before!

BONUS! Multi-file Uploads

Upload multiple files (e.g., images) to the CMS without having to zip them first. Go to Add Content > File. Then simply choose the files you want from your computer by holding CTRL while selecting. It’s the way of the future!

Actions

While we have made every effort to make the transition to CMS Version 6 as smooth as possible, please take some time to review your site after the upgrade and make sure nothing is out of place. You do not need to republish your website. Reach out to it-help@cmu.edu with any website concerns or issues.
