LinkedIn Learning Upgrade FAQs

Lynda.com will be upgraded to the LinkedIn Learning platform on July 9, 2019. This FAQ will address some common questions about the upgrade.

Upgrade Highlights

New Look, Same Content

LinkedIn Learning offers the same high-quality library of on-demand, expert-led instructional videos as Lynda.com, but with an updated look and new features.

Automatic Transition

Your Lynda.com learning history, account information, and certifications will be waiting for you in LinkedIn Learning. Personal playlists will be migrated to a collection.

Flexible & Personalized Learning

Personalized learning recommendations using LinkedIn’s professional network and experience are available on any device, on and offline for your convenience.

What changes will I see?

  • You can connect your CMU LinkedIn Learning account to your personal LinkedIn profile if you have one.
  • Your personal Playlists will become Collections.
  • Enhanced features to tag connections, share content, and ask questions to a community of learners.

What do I need to do?

  • Just log in to Linkedin Learning with your Andrew userID and password after the upgrade to activate your account. You will have the option to connect to your LinkedIn account for enhanced content features and a more personalized learning experience.
    • If you do not have a LinkedIn account, don't worry. You will be able to create one.
    • If you choose to continue without connecting your LinkedIn account, you can create a separate learning account. Please note that you will not have access to your learning history after you leave campus if you choose this option.
  • Download the LinkedIn Learning app to replace the Lynda.com app if you currently use Lynda content on your mobile device or tablet.

Will I be notified before the upgrade happens?
Yes. You will be notified via email about upgrade activity and completion.

Can I continue to use Lynda.com during the upgrade?
No. During the upgrade, you will not be able to access Lynda.com or LinkedIn Learning for a small period of time (approximately 24 hours).

Do I need to connect my LinkedIn profile?
No, but we strongly recommend it. You will have the option to connect your LinkedIn profile or create a separate Learning account during activation. If you choose to connect your LinkedIn profile, you’ll receive additional benefits such as personalized recommendations for your skills and position, as well as what’s trending on LinkedIn Learning based on LinkedIn data. This will help to create a learning experience that’s tailor-made for your needs. If you choose to continue without connecting your LinkedIn account, you will not have access to your learning history after you leave campus.
