A New Gadget on Your Holiday Wish List?

If you receive a new phone or tablet this year, don’t forget to set everything up before you return to campus. Don’t worry! We’ll help you get started. We’ve got a quick and easy checklist designed with your time in mind.

Update Your DUO

At Carnegie Mellon we use two-factor authentication (2fa) with DUO to add an extra level of security to your online accounts and make it even more difficult for hackers to get your info.

  1. Visit Two-Factor Authentication (2fa).
  2. Click Add a new device to 2fa to add your new phone with the same number to your Andrew account.
  3. Follow the prompts, to set up your new device with DUO.

Note:
For iOS devices, Instant Restore transfers your DUO account information to your new iPhone or iPad as long as iCloud Keychain is enabled.

Lock It Down

Just because you’ve just opened your new gadget doesn't mean it’s got the latest and greatest software installed. That’s important, because new versions often contain important security updates designed to keep your device and your information safe and unwanted visitors out. Update your device software now to keep your device secure for the semester to come.

Get Connected

When you return after Winter Break, connect your device to the CMU-SECURE wireless network. You'll also use this network for any device that has a browser such as laptops, phones, and tablets.

Note: You have to be on campus to complete this step, so this is one item on your checklist that will have to wait until you’re back on campus.
