New Features in Your Favorite Google Tools
At CMU, we rely on Google Workspace for Education to power our productivity. From Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides to Drive and Calendar, faculty, staff, and students across campus work with Google tools every day to accomplish their goals.
Google regularly releases updates to improve its tools. Check out a few of our favorite updates since the fall, and learn how to use new features to enhance your work, learning, and teaching.
Display Your Data in Google Sheets with Tables
Tables in Google Sheets allow you to transform an unformatted spreadsheet into a visually appealing, organized, and fully functional table in just a few clicks. Here are a few recent updates:
- New interface upgrades allow you to add rows and columns easily, convert to a table, and more.
- Display Google Form data in a more structured, easy-to-read format.
- Use conditional notifications to monitor changes that are most relevant to you.
- Filter by condition, such as “Date is” or “Text ends with,” to help find what you need.
Create More Organized and Unique Google Docs
- Use document tabs to add structure and easy navigation within your document.
- Personalize and differentiate your document from others with a cover image.
Email Collaborators Directly from a Workspace App
You can now email collaborators directly from Workspace apps like Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. This feature allows you to ask the group questions about the document or notify them of recent updates.
To email collaborators from a Workspace app:
- Click Share.
- Click the Email people on this file (envelope) icon.
Communicate in New Ways with Google Chat
- If someone sends a voice message in Chat, you can now read a transcription.
- Convey more information and save time by sending a video message.
We encourage you to explore these features in your own work and stay tuned for more updates to help you enhance how you use Google Workspace at CMU!
