The economics programs are designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of central economic theories, behavioral economics, empirical methods and applications.
Graduates from economics programs take on careers in finance, entertainment, marketing, technology, government, public policy and more. Many also pursue continuing education in business administration, economics, finance, informatics, medicine and statistics.

Inspired by the richness of disciplinary traditions and innovation, the English department is dedicated to enhancing the student experience while cultivating opportunities beyond the classroom.
Department of English graduates go on to work for companies like Apple, Microsoft, Time Warner, Hewlett Packard, Paramount Studios, Google, Salesforce, Oracle and Fulbright. Others continue their education in graduate programs at top institutions, including Columbia University, the Art Institute of Chicago, Johns Hopkins University and the University of Michigan.

The Department of History focuses on the connections between the past and present as well as how historical knowledge facilitates the understanding of social, cultural and policy change.
Graduates have gone on to work at companies like Google, PNC and Deloitte and to positions at the U.S. State Department, Peace Corps and in education. Many also pursue graduate degrees at schools including Harvard Law, Duke University and Johns Hopkins.

Graduate Degree
As the world becomes more connected, the Information Systems program equips students with advanced skillsets to emerge as leaders in the software systems and services industry.
The Information Systems program is a collaboration between Deitrich College and Heinz College of Public Policy and Management. Undergraduates who pursue a degree in information systems undertake internships at international corporations including Apple, Capital One, Microsoft, Amazon and Boeing and go on to become successful entrepreneurs and technology experts in a broad range of fields.
B.S. in Information Systems
The Carnegie Mellon Institute for Strategy and Technology (CMIST) is the home for international relations and political science at Carnegie Mellon University. It is an interdisciplinary institute that works across the university to tackle the risks and benefits of emerging technologies in war and peace.
CMIST graduates have gone on to work in government, advocacy, the non-profit sector, research centers, think tanks and consulting positions, and have pursued law degrees.

The Department of Languages, Cultures & Applied Linguistics (formerly the Department of Modern Languages) provides students with varied opportunities to engage with the world's rich diversity of languages and cultures.
Languages, Cultures & Applied Linguistics graduates now work in the U.S. or abroad for companies such as Google, Microsoft, Siemens, L’Oréal and the Language Company, and for institutions including the State Department, the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Institutes of Health. Others have continued as Fulbright Fellows or in graduate programs at Stanford University, the University of Washington, Universidad del Norte and many others.

The Neuroscience Institute administers two Ph.D. programs, both of which benefit from a close relationship with the Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition (CNBC), an integrative center spanning both Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh. We take advantage of the world-class strengths of CMU and Pitt in areas including computer science, machine learning, statistics and dynamical systems, training students to apply these tools to critical problems in neuroscience.
Department of Philosophy students and faculty conduct research on the foundations of science, computation, mathematics, rationality, causation and cognitive science, serve on National Academies of Science committees and work with many other agencies and the community.
Philosophy students have undertaken internships at a diverse range of organizations, including Facebook, Google, the Carey Group, the offices of U.S. Senators, Bob Casey and Kristin Gillibrand, and the New York County District Attorney's Office, making a real-world impact and gaining valuable experience as they enter the workforce or continue their educations.

As members of an internationally renowned department, psychology students have the opportunity to study specialties ranging from cognitive science to social, developmental, educational and health psychologies.
Graduates have gone on to work at Uber-ATC, the Cleveland Clinic, the Literacy Lab and more.

Students in the Department of Social and Decision Sciences learn how to combine creative ideals with the realities of human and organizational behavior to excel in key decision-making roles in the public and private sectors.
While pursuing their degrees, SDS students have held internships with companies such as Accenture, Boeing, First Republic Bank, Google, Go Fund Me, Deloitte, Disney, IBM, Levi Strauss, PNC, Prudential Financial, Tesla and the U.S. Congress. Alumni embark on careers as data analysts, digital marketing analysts, business management consultants, statistical consultants, data scientists, policy coordinators and project managers.

Statistics & Data Sciences courses are tailored to meet the needs and interests of students, and emphasize modern methods, strong communication skills and the analysis of data from real, interdisciplinary problems.
Students in the Statistics & Data Science Department have held internships with BNY Mellon, Capital One, Facebook, Highmark Health and Microsoft. Alumni start their careers as data analysts, data scientists, software analysts, software engineers and consultants.
