    • Server: exchange.andrew.cmu.edu
    • Username: Andrew userID
    • Password: Andrew password
  3. Set a passcode, if prompted. A policy on the Exchange server may require you to create a passcode.

Mobile ActiveSync Policy

A Mobile ActiveSync Policy tool is available through MyExchange Tools.  Exchange customers can select from one of three security policies:

  • CMU Open Policy - No passcode required
  • CMU Secure Policy I - Passcode required
  • CMU Secure Policy II - Passcode required; device wipe after 10 failed password attempts.
Note: In general, a wipe is intended to reset the device to factory default condition and erase all data including storage cards; however, this behavior may differ between manufacturers. Check with your device manufacturer for details.

Because access to sensitive data varies between departments, we recommend that you check with your manager or departmental administrator for advice on which policy to adopt.

Changing Policies

When switching from CMU Secure Policy I or CMU Secure Policy II to CMU Open Policy, you will need to take additional steps to remove the passcode from your device. Follow the steps below. If you need help, refer to your device manual, your departmental administrator or DSP consultant.

  1. Once you have made the policy change in MyExchange, allow 30 minutes for it to take effect.
  2. Locate your passcode settings (i.e., code used to unlock your mobile device).
  3. Depending on your device, either turn your passcode off or remove it.
  4. Power off your device and then turn it back on.

Note: If you are unable to remove the passcode or if the device still requires your passcode, remove and re-add your Exchange account.
