Why do so many people doubt scientific findings? Rob Kass, Maurice Falk Professor of Statistics & Computational Neuroscience and member of the Neuroscience Institute, says there are many reasons.

One reason has received too little attention: scientists, and science journalists, too often exaggerate results. In his lecture, “Exaggerated Claims Undermine Science by Ignoring the Scientific Method,” Kass explains how contemporary notions of scientific method are informed by statistical thinking which, if applied consistently, would greatly increase the effectiveness and stature of the scientific enterprise.
