Letter from the Editor-in-Chief:

Welcome! I am pleased to introduce the latest issue of the Journal of Politics and Strategy, sponsored by Carnegie Mellon University’s Institute for Politics and Strategy.  This edition features the original research of a selection of stellar undergraduate and graduate students from the Institute of Politics and Strategy. Our undergraduate students’ areas of interest are reflected in the wide-ranging topics covered here – from the Tokyo Olympics to the history of Army ROTC at CMU, and the impact of Covid-19 on urban crime. This issue also includes the concise version of three of our Master of Science in International Relations and Politics (MS IRP) graduate theses. As ever, our aim is to maintain the tradition we established with our first issue in 2013, by producing an academic social science journal that provides members of the Carnegie Mellon community to contribute to important policy debates of the day – be they local, national or internationally focused.
