Carnegie Mellon University

The Carnegie Mellon University Journal of Politics and Strategy invites students to submit original research on any topic related to international relations and political science. Undergraduate students from all Carnegie Mellon University colleges and disciplines are invited to submit. Work that has been submitted for a grade in a prior or current CMU course is eligible for submission. 

Students should submit their work electronically by completing the Journal of Politics and Strategy Submission FormFor consideration for the Spring 2023 issue, students should submit their research by March 15, 2023.

Submission Guidelines

Eligibility: Undergraduate students from all Carnegie Mellon University colleges and disciplines are eligible to submit their work. 

Length: Submissions should be no more than 1500 words. We may consider exceptional longer submissions on occasion.

Format: Submissions must include a cover sheet with the author's name, email address, and essay title. The author’s name should appear on the cover sheet only.

Style Considerations: Be concise. Avoid heavy academic style. Citations should be hyperlinked within the text of the article (formal citations, including footnotes, are not recommended).

Deadline: Submissions will be considered on a rolling basis. For consideration for the Spring 2023 issue, please submit your research by March 15, 2023.

What to Expect: If your pitch or draft is accepted for publication, you can expect some back and forth with Abby editing your piece. Once finalized, articles will go live on the Journal website.
