Government and Military Engagements

The Institute for Politics and Strategy works with government and military leaders through the following activities:

  • Hosting distinguished visitors to inform them about CMU’s research and educational activities related to national security, as well as inviting them to engage with the university community through public lectures, faculty seminars, and meetings with students. Visitors include military leaders, intelligence agency leaders, diplomats, policymakers, political leaders, scholars, and innovators in the private sector. In October 2020, IPS co-sponsored a virtual event with terrorism expert Jason Blazakis.
  • Developing and facilitating executive short courses at the intersection of technology and policy for congressional staff members, policymakers, policy analysts, and members of defense, diplomatic, and intelligence organizations. In September 2020, IPS hosted an executive short course with US Special Operations Command.
  • Providing a focal point for CMU to enter into deeper engagements with government organizations. For specific engagements, IPS leads joint efforts in proposal writing, meetings with government officials, and faculty deliberations on new research and teaching on national security issues.
