Bio

Lieutenant Colonel (Promotable) Michael Needham is a United States Army War College Fellow in Information Technology and Strategy, Carnegie Mellon University.

Mike has twenty-one years of military service as an Army Field Artillery Officer and Operations Research Systems Analyst (ORSA).  Mike spent the first part of his career in multiple Field Artillery assignments before transitioning to the Operations Research military specialty.  He most recently served within the Program Analysis and Evaluation Directorate, Headquarters Department of the Army where he helped to build the Army’s annual five-year defense budget.  Mike’s previous Army ORSA assignments include Department of the Army Staff G-1 performing personnel analysis, ORSA Proponent Office managing the recruiting and training of ORSA personnel, and the Training and Doctorate Command Analysis Center (TRAC) where he performed analysis, modeling and simulations for future weapon systems development. 

Mike has a degree in Computer Science from Saint John’s University (Minnesota) and a Master’s degree in Operations Research from Kansas State University.  He was the recipient of the 57th Annual Pace Award given by the Secretary of the Army to an officer whose work benefits the Army by providing substantial financial savings, or technological military development.
