Connecting with Fellow DC Tartans

Are you a CMU/WSP alumnus who wants to keep in touch with the program?  Or a CMU grad in the DC area looking to engage with the local Tartan community?  We’d love to help you stay involved!  From serving as a guest of the CMU/WSP Internship Seminar to grabbing a coffee with a current student, there are many ways to engage with the Washington Semester Program.  Read on for more ideas and please reach out to Program Manager Meghan Mattern if you’d like to get involved. To kick of your engagement, be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for student and program highlights throughout the semester.

Learn from DC alumni mentors!

The Washington Semester Program takes advantage of its vast alumni network in Washington, DC by pairing current members of the cohort with alumni mentors. These relationships help students make an entrée into the vast, living organism that is the nation’s capital with some insight from those who have come before them. The students and mentors meet and discuss how to balance the academic workload and their internship obligations; resumes and interview skills; networking; and DC life. The mentors also return to the CMU/WSP offices once a semester for an alumni networking reception.

Participate in the Internship Seminar

A new city and a new internship can be tough, but hearing from CMU alumni who had similar experiences and went on to lead exciting, successful careers across the DMV can be heartening.  Share you journey from campus to the District (or just your thoughts about office culture) as an alumni guest during our weekly Internship Seminar course for CMU/WSP students!

Host an Intern or a Site Visit

  • Work at an office that’s always looking for great interns? We’re happy to connect you to CMU/WSP students with aligned interests.
  • Want to show of your organization or introduce students to prospective roles? Get in touch and we can incorporate a site visit into our semester programming.

Attend a Networking Event

Periodically, we invite alumni and local partners to come together for some light snacks and networking with students. As one of the most-requested events, we’re always looking for new faces to join in.  Send us a note to be added to our networking d-list.

Grab a Coffee

Engagement doesn’t have to be so formal.  We strive to match our CMU/WSP students with alumni who share professional paths, backgrounds, or hobbies and encourage them to meet up over coffee.  Drop us a line if low-key mentorship sounds like a perfect way to give back to our CMU-in-DC community.

Help Students Fund Their DC Experience

Donate to our Washington Semester Program Fund to help make CMU/WSP accessible to every member of the CMU community. Every dollar raised will be used to provide need-based financial assitance to incoming CMU/WSP participants. Contribute to the CMU/WSP Fund.
