Sheffield Hallam University Creative Writing Exchange Program

Undergraduate students in the spring of their junior year are eligible for a study abroad option at Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) in Sheffield, UK.


Course offerings (or modules, as they are called) at Sheffield Hallam University include creative workshops in Poetry, Short Story, Novel, and Script; additional courses include Renaissance Studies, Modern Drama 1880-1990, Sociolinguistics, Libertines and Devils, Children's Language, Children's Literature, Literature of the 18th Century and Romantic Period, Race, Slavery and Empire in the 19th Century, and British and American Literature.

Sheffield Hallam University students also have the option to study at CMU. Plus in Spring 2016, CMU English launched a faculty exchange where Jim Daniels, Thomas Stockham Baker University Professor of English, taught at SHU, and SHU's Conor O'Callaghan taught at CMU.

Application Deadline

The application deadline is May 1 for the following spring semester. For example, to study abroad in the spring 2021 semester, students need to submit the application by May 1, 2020.

  • list of desired SHU modules

Eligibility

Students interested in participating in the SHU exchange must be undergraduate sophomores wishing to attend the program in their junior year and be in good academic standing (usually with a QPA of 3.0 or higher). Students do not need to be Creative Writing majors or minors in order to apply for the exchange.
