16 English Department Majors Inducted into International English Honor Society

Carnegie Mellon's chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, Omega Tau, welcomed 16 new members into the International English Honor Society at its induction ceremony on April 28 in the Steinberg Auditorium.

Sigma Tau Delta is the largest honors organization in the field of English. The society was founded in 1924 at Dakota Wesleyan University and has over 870 active chapters throughout the U.S., Europe, Middle East, and Caribbean.

The central purpose of the society is to “confer distinction upon students of the English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate and professional studies.” Sigma Tau Delta also recognizes the accomplishments of professional writers who have contributed to the fields of language and literature.

In March, undergraduate Creative Writing and Japanese Studies major, Laura Berry, traveled to New Mexico to present her work at  Sigma Tau Delta’s International Convention, which drew an estimated 1,000 attendees.
