Bio

Trista L. Powers is a second year doctoral student in the rhetoric program. Ms. Powers graduated from the University of Mount Union with a B.A. in English and earned her M.A. in English/Rhetoric from Carnegie Mellon University. In her research pursuits, she will be exploring how various speech communities and discursive practices reflective of the African American literate and oral traditions undergird the African American rhetorical culture. Additionally, her research will focus on exploring the intersection of African American rhetorical traditions and their discursive impact on racial justice movements and on cultural identity.
