Bio
Working at the intersection of cultural analytics, feminist theory, and American literature, Gabrielle "Gabi" Kirilloff uses large-scale computational methods to challenge dominant narratives about literary history. Her current book project, Keeping You Close, examines moments of direct address in a corpus of over 2,000 Anglophone novels to argue that female and African American writers used such rhetorical strategies to contest shifting cultural attitudes about empathy. She is co-founder of the AI Humanities Lab at Washington University, has three book manuscripts in progress (including one under contract with Duke UP on video games), and writes a biweekly public-scholarship column for Forbes. She has received teaching awards both at TCU and at WashU.
