Bart and Kathleen Astor Endowed Creative Writing Award

This $1,000 award is given every fall semester to an undergraduate Creative Writing major (typically a junior) or an undergraduate student heavily affiliated with the Creative Writing program who demonstrates creativity, care, and potential - not necessarily someone who has the highest grades or who has come up with the most polished accomplishment. The award is used to support overall student enrichment, including, but not limited to, undergraduate student tuition, fees, living expenses, travel to writing conferences, student research, student internships, and publishing projects. This award is automatically renewed for the student's senior year as well.

Eligibility

  1. Recipient of the award must be an undergraduate Creative Writing major or undergraduate student heavily affiliated with the Creative Writing program.
  2. The student must be eligible for need-based financial aid.

Process

  1. In the fall semester, students will be nominated on the basis of their eligibilty.
  2. Eligible students will then submit a writing sample, to be reviewed by the director of the Creative Writing program, if they wish to be considered for the award.
