Bio
I am interested in how the language used to speak to and about young people in the United States teaches a performance of national membership. This interest in education discourse is largely influenced by work on nationalism in the field of political theory, which carries implications for how such fervor is deployed as violent or otherwise extreme actions towards non-members of the national community. Given the brutal violence populations are often persuaded to enact in the name of their nations, I am particularly concerned with the way each generation comes to hold this imagined allegiance.
