Bio

David Gardner is an Associate Director of Development at the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University, where he oversees the college’s annual giving, stewardship, and foundation relation efforts.

In addition to his work with the Dietrich College, David is trumpet player, arranger, and educator in the Pittsburgh area. David performs with a number of local performing arts organizations, including the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra, River City Brass Band, the Dirty ‘Burgh Brass Band, Resonance Works | Pittsburgh, the Wheeling Symphony, the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, and many others. From orchestras to NOLA-style brass ensembles, from musical pits to recording studios, and from jazz ensembles to backing rock/pop artists, David is at home in many different styles and genres of music.

David is passionate about sharing the power of music with students of all ages and backgrounds. David currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestras in Pittsburgh, PA. As an educator, he has worked with several partners including The Lighthouse Project (Homewood YMCA), River City Brass Band’s School of Brass, and many schools in the Greater Pittsburgh area. David maintains a full private trumpet studio and enjoys helping his students to define and reach their musical goals. David’s students have been accepted into PMEA honors groups, received individual music awards at their schools, and have been accepted into collegiate music programs.

David is a graduate of Youngstown State University (B.M. in Music Performance) and Carnegie Mellon University (M.M. in Music Performance).
