Bio

My research focuses on the rhetoric of sport, particularly as sport plays a role in shaping gender and sexuality norms within culture. My dissertation was entitled, "Throwing Like a Girl!: Constituting Citizenship for Women and Girls Through the American Pastime," which won the 2013 Cheris Kramarae Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language, and Gender. 

I also serve as the Director of Integrative Learning in the Office of the Vice Provost for Education where I oversee projects like the University Lecture Series, weekend micro-courses, and summer internships. As a part of my role, I am engaged in research aimed at understanding how students engage in global learning and develop cultural competency through such interactions as educational role-playing and virtual reality. 

In addition to teaching Non-Profit Message Creation, I am teaching a Grand Challenge course with Sebastien Dubreil, 66-131: Culture, Sports, Conflict in/and VR.
