Fraternity & Sorority Housing Application Process

The Fraternity and Sorority Housing application process is part of Room Selection and is specific to Fraternity and Sorority chapter members who have been selected to live in their Chapter House for the upcoming academic year. Individuals applying for Fraternity and Sorority Housing should already be a member of a Fraternity and Sorority organization with a chapter house. Fraternity and Sorority chapter residents will join one large roommate group consisting of all future residents of the house, and chapter leadership (President, House Manager, etc.) will make individual room assignments.

The Fraternity & Sorority (F&S) housing application process is only for F&S chapter members who have been notified that they have been selected to live in the chapter house for the upcoming academic year. If you are unsure about your status with your chapter, speak with your chapter President or House Manager before proceeding with the application. F&S members should only apply for F&S housing if they plan to live in the chapter house for the full upcoming academic year.

First, you should speak with your Fraternity & Sorority Chapter's House Manager or President to indicate your interest in living in the chapter house and to confirm that there is space available. Your chapter leadership may also reach out to you if your chapter has residency requirements for its members.

If selected, chapter leadership will give you their Portal Group Name and Password, at which point you should follow the steps below to apply and add yourself to your Chapter's group.

  1. Log into the Housing Portal and click "Apply for Housing."
  2. Select "Fraternity & Sorority Housing" from the drop-down menu.
  3. Select the "Greek Academic Year" term for the year you are applying.
  4. Start your Fraternity & Sorority Housing application and sign your Housing Contract.
  5. On the Roommates Group page, click the "Join Group" button and add yourself to your chapter roommate group using the Group Name and Password provided by your chapter leadership.
  6. Click "Submit" on the "Confirm F&S Housing" page to submit your application; then, just wait for your chapter leadership to assign you to a room in the chapter house. You will be notified via email once your chapter leadership has completed assignments.

Fraternity & Sorority Chapter Leadership should designate one person - usually either the Chapter President or House Manager - as the Group Leader.

The designated Group Leader (who must be one of the residents living in the house for the 2024-2025 academic year) should schedule a Zoom meeting with a member of Housing Services, and complete the following steps, on or before February 13, 2024.  Members are unable to join on February 14 unless the Group Leader has created the group.

  1. Log into the Housing Portal and click "Apply for Housing."
  2. Select "Fraternity & Sorority Housing" from the drop-down menu.
  3. Select the "Greek Academic Year" term for the year you are applying.
  4. Start your Fraternity & Sorority housing application and sign your Greek Housing Contract.
  5. On the Roommate Group page, select "Create Group." Choose a group name (usually the name of your Chapter and the year, or something similar) and create a group password; click "Create Group"; your group is now created and others are able to join.
  6. The Group Name and Password will be emailed to your Andrew email account; forward that email to all members/residents who will be living in the Chapter house for the upcoming academic year, with instructions for them to start their own application and join the group (refer them to this page, the section above, for step-by-step directions).
  7. Regularly monitor the status of your group by logging into your F&S housing application and follow up with any members/residents who are expected to be part of your group but haven't been added yet.
  8. Once your Chapter group is complete (all residents who are expected to live in the chapter house next year), you - as the Group Leader - should click the "Verify Group" button (keep in mind that once you verify your group, no changes can be made, which means no new members can add themselves and no one can remove themselves - do not verify your group until it's completely ready!)
  9. Once your group is verified, click "Save & Continue" on the roommate group page, and then submit your individual F&S Housing application by clicking through the "Confirm Fraternity & Sorority Housing" page; you will receive a confirmation that your application is submitted and should then wait for more information about signing up for your F&S room assignments appointment time (this is when the group leader will assign group members to specific rooms.)

Fraternity & Sorority Chapter Members need to wait to receive their Chapter Group Name and Password before starting their F&S housing application. If you are planning to live in your Chapter house but have not received these details, please reach out to your Chapter leadership.

Once you have this information, follow the steps below.

  1. Log into the Housing Portal and click "Apply for Housing."
  2. Select "Fraternity & Sorority Housing" from the drop-down menu.
  3. Select the "Greek Academic Year" term for the year you are applying.
  4. Start your F&S housing application and sign your Housing Contract.
  5. On the "F&S Chapter Resident Groups" page, click the "Join a F&S Group" text located in the bottom right-hand corner.
  6. Enter the Group Name and Password exactly as it appears in the email that was shared with your by your Chapter Leader.
  7. Click "Join Group."
  8. Back on the "Groups" page, you will see your name added to the listed of Greek residents.
  9. Click "Save & Continue" at the bottom of the Roommate Groups page.
  10. Click "Submit" at the bottom of the "Confirm Fraternity & Sorority Housing" page to submit your application.
  11. You're done! Now you just wait for your Chapter Leadership to assign you to a room in your Chapter house.
No. Fraternity & Sorority members who are planning (or required) to live in their Chapter house can not participate in Room Selection for campus housing. F&S members should first talk to their Chapter leadership about whether or not they are required to live in the Chapter house - different Chapter's have different residency requirements.

If your plans change and you no longer can live in your Chapter facility house, work with your Chapter leadership and Housing Services to be assigned to a space in campus housing. Keep in mind that your Chapter is required to maintain full occupancy of the house, and they may need to find someone to replace you in the house before they will be able to formally release you to move into campus housing. Moves from Fraternity or Sorority Housing into campus housing are not guaranteed.

Remember that there is no longer an open cancellation period - cancellations are only permitted when there is a change to your enrollment status. Essentially, cancellations are only granted if a student is leaving the university due to a leave of absence, withdrawal, study abroad, co-op, academic suspension, etc. Cancellations will not be permitted to move off-campus. Students who wish to live off-campus should not participate in Room Selection or the Fraternity & Sorority housing application process.

Applicants who were not assigned by their chapter leader to a room in their Fraternity or Sorority Facility for 24-25 academic year housing as of 9 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2024 will have their application automatically canceled by Housing staff and will not be bound to the Housing Contract. As a reminder, all applicants have already signed their Housing Contract as part of their application in order to be eligible to be assigned to a room by your Chapter leadership.  Your Housing Contract goes into effect at the moment that you are assigned to a room - whether via self-selection or by being assigned by a confirmed roommate group member. The Housing Contract is legally binding and cancellations will only be permitted for limited, approved reasons, such as withdrawing from the university or taking a leave of absence.

Generally, all Housing Contracts - including those for Fraternity and Sorority Chapter houses - are  for a full academic year.

However, for the 2024-2025, Housing Services is piloting a program with Fraternity and Sorority Chapters to allow them to coordinate one-semester residents in order to maintain their occupancy for the full academic year.

Chapters who are considering taking advantage of this opportunity should keep the following in mind:

  • The Fall semester resident must be leaving at the end of the Fall semester for an approved reason, such as graduating in December, studying abroad or going away for co-op in the spring semester, etc. Fall residents will not be released for the spring in order to simply move off-campus.
  • Both individuals will be required to sign their contracts during the Room Selection process.
  • The Fall resident should apply to be part of the Roommate Group through the Room Selection process; the Spring resident should complete the "Spring Only 2024" application.

Chapters who plan to utilize this option should work with the Room Assignments staff to coordinate the details.

Chapters are responsible for maintaining full (100%) occupancy of their Chapter House at all times, and are encouraged to maintain a waitlist of members who can fill vacancies that arise unexpectedly.
