Tepper School of Business senior Michael Acquaah-Harrison will take center stage as the official student speaker at Carnegie Mellon University’s 2025 Commencement Ceremony. Chosen for his standout leadership, unwavering spirit, and embodiment of CMU’s core values, he will represent the voice of the graduating class in one of the university’s most honored traditions.

A business major with a passion for service and community, Acquaah-Harrison has made a meaningful impact across campus through his involvement in athletics, student leadership, and mentorship. His selection as commencement speaker reflects his ability to connect with peers, inspire others, and articulate the shared experience of the Class of 2025.

After interviewing for the position this past February, Acquaah-Harrison said he eagerly awaited a response, checking his email frequently.

“I saw an email notification pop up on my phone while walking to office hours at the Tepper School,” he said. “When I opened the email and read the first sentence, I realized that I had been selected. I was absolutely thrilled and could hardly stop smiling for the rest of the walk!”

For Acquaah-Harrison, the opportunity to speak at commencement carries deep personal meaning. Looking ahead to the ceremony, he hopes his words will resonate with his fellow graduates.

“I’ve had the chance to engage with many parts of the Carnegie Mellon community,” he shared. “It’s a powerful moment to honor and reflect on the experiences that have shaped my time here, and I hope the speech creates a sense of gratitude for the journey, a deeper connection to one another, and genuine excitement for what’s ahead.”

Acquaah-Harrison will speak at the Carnegie Mellon University Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 11. This event, held at Gesling Stadium, celebrates all bachelor's, master’s, and doctoral degree candidates from across the university.

“We are incredibly proud of Michael and excited to see him selected as this year’s university commencement speaker,” said Jennifer Wegner, Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs at the Tepper School. “Michael embodies the leadership, integrity, and community spirit we strive to cultivate in all our students. This is a well-earned recognition of his impact on the Tepper School community, and we look forward to hearing his inspiring message on commencement day.”
