This is an accelerated, immersive track offered in Pittsburgh, PA, designed to quickly translate prior experience into career momentum.

Our MIIPS Advanced Study (MIIAS) option, offered in Pittsburgh, PA, provides a longer format that builds additional real-world experience through an integrated internship.

Learning Outcomes of the MIIPS Program
- Formulate, articulate, and execute processes and strategies to discover new innovative opportunities.
- Use the skills and/or fundamentals in the core disciplines of innovation to create new innovative projects and solutions.
- Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team environment in the context of an innovation project.
- Communicate project details and learnings using oral, written, and/or prototyping and other non-verbal communication methods to both experts and non-experts across multiple communication channels.
IPD Capstone
Design the future with the Integrated Product Development Capstone
The Integrated Product Development (IPD) Capstone is the cornerstone course of the MIIPS program, bringing engineers, designers, and business leaders together to solve real-world, industry-sponsored challenges. Founded in 1986 and inspired by the late Nobel Laureate and CMU faculty member Herbert A. Simon, the course has become a global model for interdisciplinary innovation.

Academic background for MIIPS candidates
The MIIPS program is intentionally interdisciplinary. Successful students bring curiosity, collaboration, and a willingness to work beyond a single discipline.
Students typically come from backgrounds in:
- Engineering (all disciplines)
- Design (including fine arts, architecture, UX/UI and HCI)
- Business and economics
Applicants should hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent) from an accredited institution recognized by ABET, the Higher Learning Commission or the U.S. Department of Education.
