Accounting is the examination, processing and reporting of an organization or economic entity’s financial information. Research and study at the Tepper School includes financial accounting, managerial accounting, corporate financial reporting, information economics and microeconomic theory.

Business Law

Business Law focuses on how the political, social and legal environment affects a firm and its managers. This can include legal and regulatory matters impacting trade, acquisitions and mergers; rights and responsibilities of business parties; securities regulation; bankruptcy, insurance, agency, partnership; incorporation and corporate governance; intellectual property; attorney-client relationship; social implications of business policies; environmental protection; and corporate social responsibility.

Business Management Communication

Business Communication focuses on how information is conveyed within an organization and the skills required of business leaders to be effective. Research and study at the Tepper School includes management communication, consulting, team collaboration, corporate strategies and the development of problem-solving skills, writing and presentation strategies.

Business Technologies explores how organizations build, deploy and use information systems, networks and other digital technologies. Areas of research and study at the Tepper School include big data, novel applications of software technology, IT management, e-business and the economics of information systems.

Economics examines the behavior of markets, economies and their specific components. Research and study at the Tepper School includes macroeconomic theory, banking and financial markets, fiscal and monetary policy, public finance, corporate governance, business cycles, labor market dynamics, microeconomic theory, contract theory and commerce.

Entrepreneurship

Our Entrepreneurship offerings include both academic and experiential learning. The Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship is a campus-wide interdisciplinary center bringing together the elements of business, technology and design to foster company creation. We offer paths to high-growth company creation and entrepreneurship through acquisition. We provide numerous networking and mentoring opportunities via clubs, Silicon Valley treks, alumni panels, investor showcases and outreach related to early-stage ventures, funding, commercialization, legal and financial planning.

Ethics

Ethics analyzes concepts of right and wrong behavior for individuals and organizations. Although an ancient field, ethics is an active research discipline today. Research and study at the Tepper School include business and professional ethics, cross-cultural ethics, corporate social responsibility, ethics and leadership, and behavioral ethics in organizations.

Finance

Finance focuses on how corporations, governments, and individuals raise funds and allocate resources over time, under conditions of risk or uncertainty. Financial markets and financial asset prices play a critical role in determining optimal funding and resource allocation decisions and are a central focus of research and teaching in finance at the Tepper School. Specific study includes savings and investment strategies, financial market regulation, international finance, tax effects and the banking system.

General Management explores the foundational issues of managing a successful business — from the development of new markets for products and services, to understanding the interrelated functional areas of a firm, to the ideas and principles behind becoming a successful business leader.

Marketing decisions span areas of consumer behavior, strategy, product/service innovation, pricing, branding and communications. Faculty research and study at the Tepper School address key issues in all of those areas and additionally covers consumer preference modeling, big data, game theory and behavioral decision making.

Operations Management examines the design of systems for production and provision of goods and services. Research and study at the Tepper School include supply chain management, revenue management, sustainability, operations strategy, energy, healthcare, innovation and the interaction of operations within areas such as marketing, accounting, finance, information systems, computer science and engineering.

Operations Research

Operations Research is the study of mathematic models and algorithms for optimal decision making. Research and study at the Tepper School includes integer programming, combinational optimization, constraint programming and large-scale non-linear programming. Study spans both theory and application.

Organizational Behavior and Theory is an interdisciplinary field that examines the effectiveness of individuals, teams, networks and organizations. Research at the Tepper School includes team dynamics, collective intelligence, conflict management, negotiation, justice, power, and status, ethical behavior, social network analysis, knowledge transfer and group and organizational learning.
