Cheering on Our Tartan Athletic Teams

Dear Members of the Pittsburgh CMU Community:

I am writing to share my anticipation and excitement as Tartan Athletics prepares to host historic competitions this weekend.

It has been quite a season for our student-athletes. Tartan volleyball, football, and both men’s and women’s soccer and cross country teams were recently selected to compete in their respective NCAA Championships. This is the first time in program history that Carnegie Mellon has had all six fall teams make it to NCAA postseason play!

After finishing its season undefeated, the Tartan football team will host a first round NCAA playoff game on Saturday at 12 p.m. in Gesling Stadium, facing off against DePauw University. Of note, the Tartans’ 17-game winning streak is the longest in the nation — regardless of division! And on Saturday at 5 p.m., our women’s soccer team will compete in the NCAA Sweet 16 against Washington University, also here at home. Both cross country teams are on the road this weekend, competing in their championships at Forest Akers on the campus of Michigan State University.

Admission for all postseason NCAA games hosted at CMU is free for all students with your CMU ID, and I want to encourage the entire Tartan community to come cheer on our outstanding student-athletes.

I wish to congratulate all our teams, along with the coaches and staff who support them — win or lose — including Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of Athletics Josh Centor. This weekend is a celebration of the many ways our athletic programs enrich our community and serve as a core element of the CMU experience. As our scholar-athletes represent our institution this weekend, let's show them how proud we are of their accomplishments.

GO TARTANS!

Sincerely,

Farnam Jahanian
