Statement from CMU President Farnam Jahanian on the Brookings Metro Report, “Commonwealth of Innovation: A Policy Agenda for Revitalizing Pennsylvania’s Economic Dynamism”

"Pennsylvania has become one of the most dynamic states in America by harnessing its transformative strengths in science, technology and innovation. For these strengths to create lasting societal impact and economic benefit for all in the state, it’s imperative the Commonwealth continue to maximize its proven strategy of establishing strong public-private partnerships. These partnerships, including with global research institutions and the private sector, encourage intentional investments in our innovation economy and enable critical sectors like advanced manufacturing, energy, life sciences, robotics and artificial intelligence to flourish. By creating policies with bipartisan support, our state can unleash the potential of generational opportunities like the Build Back Better Regional Challenge grant and the landmark CHIPs and Science Act of 2022, which will assist in attracting and retaining global companies, top talent, entrepreneurs and funding while also elevating economic opportunities that will improve lives. I’d like to thank the Brookings Institution for its work on this report, which will advance the dialogue on how we can come together to seize this crucial moment and reinforce Pennsylvania as a national leader in innovation."
