Carnegie Mellon University

September 4, 2020

Dear CMU Staff and Faculty,

As we head into the Labor Day weekend, I want to thank the 6,400 members of CMU’s staff and faculty community for your hard work and dedication throughout the year.

Especially over the past few months, you have continued to demonstrate the ideals that make our university truly exceptional. Thank you for approaching the challenges of this pandemic with compassion, strength and perseverance. Now more than ever, you fuel our momentum with your commitment to excellence and your collaborative energy makes CMU a vibrant and supportive place to live, learn, work and play.

This holiday also offers an opportunity to reflect on the commitment of our first responders and essential workers – and all those who are serving on the frontlines of this ongoing pandemic. We are deeply grateful for their sacrifices.

The entire leadership team and I appreciate the work you do to make Carnegie Mellon a world-class institution and a welcoming community. I look forward to expressing my continued gratitude throughout the year and I wish you all a safe and relaxing Labor Day weekend!

Warmly,

Farnam Jahanian
