Graduate Application Requirements

Updated Information August 2, 2021Updated Visitor Protocol effective August 1, 2021: Visitors (both indoors and outdoors) for one-time visits and/or recurring meetings/events on campus are permitted. 

Those wishing to visit campus may schedule a self-guided walking tour through the Office of Undergraduate Admission or register for the limited in-person information sessions. The School of Music remains closed to guests until after the fall semester begins; you can check this website for an updated information session schedule and view our virtual tour

Our application is anticipated to open by September 1. We are waiting for the university to update policies surrounding visitors and events before we can finalize what the Fall 2022 application process will look like, but are sharing our anticipated expectations. When available, it will be updated on this site and time-stamped. 

All applicants to the Master of Music, Master of Science or Advanced Music Studies Certificate program must complete the following application requirements by December 1.:

  • Please be sure to review the audition/portfolio requirements for your program of choice. 
  • Submit the School of Music’s online application (see detailed requirements below)
  • Pay the $125.00 application and audition fee online using a credit card.

Auditions/portfolios are anticipated to be held in-person, live virtual, and via recorded auditions for the 2021-2022 application cycle. Please review requirements for your area. Please check to see if your area requires pre-screening.

Required Application Materials:

  • Written Personal Statement
  • Repertoire or Portfolio List
  • Music Resumé
  • Professional Resumé (if applying for an assistantship)
  • Three letters of recommendation
    (submitted through the online application)
  • Unofficial or Official Transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
    (desired minimum GPA: 3.0)
  • Pre-screening, audition, or portfolio requirements as noted by area.
  • Test Scores: 
    • Students whose native language is not English must submit an official TOEFL, IELTS or DuoLingo score.

    • Music & Technology (MS) applicants may submit an official GRE score (we are test-optional for the 202-2022 application cycle).
