Comprehensive Program

Rigorous instruction to help high-school musicians discover their potential for a career in music. Students take private 1-hr weekly Studio Lessons, Music Theory, Solfège, Music History Seminar, Music Resume & Portfolio Workshop, Convocation, and Group Workshops in their chosen specialty.

Essentials Program

Supplemental instruction for students looking to expand and maintain musical study over the summer. Students take private 1-hr weekly Studio Lessons, Music Theory, and Solfège.

Six Weeks: $4200

Three Weeks: $2100

Six Weeks: $1200

Each additional class added to the Six-Week Essentials Program is $820

Three Weeks: $600

Each additional class added to the Three-Week Essentials Program is $410

All course are offered for enrichment only. The Summer Pre-College Program does not produce official Carnegie Mellon grades or transcripts.

Every effort will be made to support students and families in financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic. If your student is interested in participating in the 2021 CMU School of Music Pre-College but is unable to afford it because of COVID-19 related loss of work, please reach out to the Director, Stephen Neely. While we cannot guarantee scholarship support in all cases, we are committed to doing what we can in providing limited scholarships.

After submitting your registration for the program, all part-time students must submit the 2021 Music Pre-College Online Release Form. Full-time students will submit their release form separately via the enrollment portal.

The School of Music Pre-College reserves the right to withdraw students from specific courses due to class size, scheduling conflicts, or inappropriate student skill or behavior. The class schedule is subject to change. Arrangements may be made for Summer Pre-College Music students who require a refund due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts.  These refunds must be arranged through the office of the Director, School of Music Pre-College.
