Online Music Pre-College 2021

Due to the unprecedented situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, CMU Music Pre-College is offering a unique online program for Summer 2021 to give high school musicians the opportunity to continue learning and furthering their skills while staying safe and healthy.  

There are three ways to participate in Music Pre-College in 2021. For the richest experience, please click here to learn about the Full-Time Program. Alternatively, students can opt to take just the core offerings with the Essentials Program or challenge themselves with the more rigorous Comprehensive Program.

Program Dates

Full Session: Tuesday, July 6, 2021-Friday, August 13th, 2021

Session 3A: Tuesday, July 6, 2021-Friday, July 23, 2021

Session 3B: Monday, July 26, 2021-Friday, August 13, 2021 (Available only for Essentials or Comprehensive Students)

Mandatory Student Orientation will take place on Saturday June 26th at 11:30am EDT.

All students must be of high-school age and be located in the United States at the time of the program to participate.

Courses meet online via Zoom and meet MWF after 12:00pm EDT (9:00am PDT).

Comprehensive Program

Rigorous instruction to help high-school musicians discover their potential for a career in music.

Essentials Program

Supplemental instruction for students looking to expand and maintain musical study over the summer.

Students participating in the Essentials Program may also add on courses including a minor studio, Music History Seminar, Resume & Portfolio Workshop, Movement and Mindfulness for Musicians, and/or Group Workshops. Additional fees apply.

Please note:

  • Schedule may be adjusted based on specific enrollment.
  • Due to the inability to hold major ensembles in Summer 2021, auditions are not required for the Comprehensive & Essentials Program. However, they are required for the Full-Time Program.
  • All course are offered for enrichment only. The Summer Pre-College Program does not produce official Carnegie Mellon grades or transcripts.
