Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit
What CMU Community Members Need to Know
Senator Dave McCormick will convene the inaugural Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit on the CMU campus on Tuesday, July 15. President Donald Trump is expected to attend in addition to industry leaders and government officials. The summit is invitation-only but will be livestreamed on Sen. McCormick’s website.
This page is intended to provide information for our campus and community that will be important to know as we host this high-level event, which we do expect will create significant disruptions to campus operations from Monday afternoon, July 14, through Tuesday, July 15. Details will not be finalized until closer to the event. We will update this page with more information as it becomes available.
Be Remote If Possible
- ALERT: please note on July 15 there are only two pedestrian crossings on Forbes Ave.; (1) at Forbes. Ave. at the Tepper Building/Cyert Hall Drive and (2) at Forbes Ave. and Beeler St. More about parking and roads below.
- As with all high-profile events, this will create disruptions to our normal operations. To reduce the number of people on campus, employees and students whose presence is not required to maintain essential operations should utilize available remote work and learning options on Tuesday, if possible.
Event Security
- The summit is an invitation-only event and not open to the public. Pre-clearances will be required for participants and invited guests.
- In addition to the U.S. Secret Service, the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and Pennsylvania State police are managing security for the event and the area surrounding campus, with assistance from CMU, Pitt and Chatham officers.
- No agencies are coordinating with ICE for this event.
- Several planned demonstrations and marches are expected to draw crowds to the area. Review the university community’s commitment to free expression and civil discourse.
- Report suspicious activity to the CMU Police at 412-268-2323.
