International and Early Arrival Information (Thursday, June 29, and Friday, June 30, 2023)
- International Students: Thursday, June 29, 9:00 am - 9:00 pm
- Early Arrival Domestic Students: Friday, June 30, 9:00 am - 9:00 pm
Please see the Enrollment Portal for details on how to request an early arrival. Please note: It is highly recommended that students choose an early arrival if they will be traveling alone.
If you and your parent/guardian are in need of lodging accommodations for arrival prior to these dates, please visit Carnegie Mellon's recommended accommodations site. Please be aware that most hotels in the United States will not permit an individual under the age of 18 to stay in a hotel without a parent/guardian.
Opening Day (Saturday, July 1, 2023)
Opening Day is the preferred arrival day for any student who is able to arrive on that day. Check-in begins at 9:00 am and goes until 1:00 pm. If you will be arriving before or after that time frame, please reach out to Pre-College Student Affairs for assistance.
Parents are encouraged, but not required, to attend Opening Day. Students and parents will have the opportunity to hear from their academic program directors and the Director of Pre-College Programs, meet with program instructors, and discuss student schedules. The events of the day are followed by a dinner for students, parents, and program staff. Parents may stay until dinner on Opening Day. All programming after dinner is for students only.
Orientation Day (Sunday, July 2, 2023)
Under special circumstances and prior authorization, students can arrive on Orientation Day. However, they will miss important items of discussion including an all-program meeting, floor meetings, and the events of Opening Day. If you are unable to arrive on Opening Day or as an early arrival, please reach out to Pre-College Student Affairs to get permission and authorize arrival on Orientation Day.
Students will have the opportunity to learn more about Carnegie Mellon University, navigate campus, and get to know other students in the program. We highly encourage all students to take full advantage of this day.
