Katherine Schipper

katherine-schipper-square.pngKatherine Schipper is widely respected as an empirical researcher, editor, teacher, standard setter, and mentor.

Known for her innovative research on the economics of financial reporting and its policy implications, she has published numerous papers in top-tier academic journals.

Born in St. Marys, Ohio, Schipper earned her undergraduate degree in English literature, summa cum laude, from the University of Dayton and MBA, MA [Library Science], and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Chicago.

She joined the Tepper School of Business faculty in 1976 and left the school for a faculty appointment at the University of Chicago in 1983. She was a board member at the Financial Accounting Standards Board before joining the faculty of Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business as the Thomas F. Keller Professor of Accounting in 2006.

Additionally, Schipper has served as editor of the Journal of Accounting Research and as president of the American Accounting Association and the International Association for Accounting Education and Research. 

Her honors include membership in the Accounting Hall of Fame and honorary degrees from Notre Dame University, the Norwegian School of Economics, the Stockholm School of Economics, the Bucharest University of Economic Studies and the Singapore Management University.
