MSO Conducting Scholars
Carnegie Mellon University doesn’t just teach musical excellence, it trains the musical leaders of tomorrow. The Millennium Symphony Orchestra accepts a limited number of students to enroll as MSO Conducting Scholars. In the program, Conducting Scholars enroll in weekly private conducting lessons with Maestro Curtis and gain podium experience through conducting instrumental ensembles of program colleagues.
Previous conducting experience is not required, and there is no additional charge for the Conducting Scholar apprenticeship. All Conducting Scholars must be enrolled as a Full-Time Pre-College Music Student with an instrumental, voice, composition, or music technology concentration.
Application Guidelines:
In addition to the regular Pre-College application requirements, Conducting Scholar applicants must submit an additional short essay (~500 words) demonstrating their interest in conducting and musical leadership. This essay must be emailed to music-precollege@andrew.cmu.edu subject: MSO Conducting Scholar.
