Bio

Teacher of many prize-winning students, Jeffry Harris has served on the faculty of the Carnegie Mellon Preparatory School since 2001.  Mr. Harris taught piano and music theory at Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA for five years.  He has held positions at the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D. C. and served as Registrar and Dean of Students at the Hochstein Music School in Rochester, New York. Mr. Harris has been heard as soloist, chamber musician, and vocal accompanist, and performed as concerto soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony at age 17.  Important teachers include Harry Franklin, Joseph Schwartz, Karen Shaw, Maria Clodes-Jaguaribe, and Sheila Paige.  Mr. Harris’ piano performance degrees are from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and the Indiana University School of Music and he has done doctoral work in piano performance at Boston University School of Music. Mr. Harris is Vice President of the Steinway Society of Western Pennsylvania and was named Teacher of the Year in 2016 by the Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association.
