Bio
Mark Snyder returned to CMU in 2022 as Director of the Jazz Ensemble. A CMU alum, he holds a Master’s in Composition and a BFA in Composition and Trombone Performance. With 20 years of experience as a music educator in Pittsburgh Public Schools, Mark has taught students of all ages and abilities. He currently teaches music theory and directs ensembles at Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA).
Mark has been an active freelance musician for 35 years, playing and recording with many ensembles in and around the Pittsburgh area, including the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Opera and Ballet Orchestra, and River City Brass Band. He has performed with Jerry Lewis, Ray Charles, John Denver, the Temptations, Steve Allen, and The Four Tops, recorded several of PBS’s Doo-Wop Series shows.
Mark is a native to Pittsburgh and is married with two daughters.
