Bio

Sung-Im Kim, pianist, is Associate Teaching Professor of Collaborative Piano at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Music, where she teaches collaborative piano and chamber music literature, works closely with instrumental studios, and mentors students across the department. She also serves as Chamber Music Director for the Preparatory School and contributes to the university’s Pre-College Program through coaching of vocalists, instrumentalists, and opera workshops.

An experienced chamber musician and collaborative artist, Ms. Kim has partnered with violinists Ray Chen and Solomiya Ivakhiv, flutist Lorna McGhee, and members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Her performances have taken place at venues such as St. Martin in the Fields (London), the National Gallery of Art (Washington, D.C.), Seoul Arts Center, and The Pump Room (Bath, UK). She has participated in festivals including Orford Musique (Canada) and has appeared in concert series and benefit performances in North America, Europe, and Asia.

Ms. Kim has contributed to recording projects including Playing For a New Piano and the world premiere of Nancy Galbraith’s Piano Concerto No. 3, both available on major streaming platforms. She has received recognition in competitions such as the Ibla International Piano Competition (Italy), Haverhill Sinfonia Soloist Competition (UK), and JoongAng National Piano Competition (Korea).

Originally from South Korea, Ms. Kim studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, Texas Christian University, and Carnegie Mellon University. Her principal teachers include Sergey Schepkin, Enrique Graf, José Feghali, Christopher Elton, and Young Ho Kim. She continues to perform and teach in festivals and institutions in the United States and abroad.
