Students from the Carnegie Mellon School of Music and the Music Preparatory School have recently won several competitions, including the Pittsburgh Concert Society Young Artist Auditions. This year, students prepared with their instructors solely via video conference, and recorded programs of 20 minutes in length which were adjudicated by Thomas Novak, Vice President and Provost, New England Conservatory. The winners will each be featured in a concert hosted by the PCS and will receive a scholarship.

Additionally, four students of Luz Manríquez, Director of the Piano Division of the Music Preparatory School, placed in the Lois Streator & Lois Smith Memorial Competition of the Greater Pittsburgh Chapter of the Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association. The Streator-Smith Competition began in 1992 to recognize talent in students in grades 7 through 12. Participants each presented a 12-minute program composed of two pieces from different periods, and the winners will receive a cash prize.
